New SCADA Improves Functionality, Value–IN 30 DAYS

On March 12, 2015, the Arkansas Chapter of ACEC* presented Clarksville Light & Water with an Engineering Excellence Award for their New SCADA upgrade, programmed and integrated by Brown Engineers, LLC.

The annual statewide engineering competition showcases projects that embody a high level of expertise, value, and innovation. In this project, Brown helped a small town make a big leap in SCADA technology—in just 30 days.

Brown Engineers helped CLW replace its water system’s dysfunctional, obsolete SCADA system with one that’s more useful, flexible and affordable. Clarksville has less than 5,000 water customers—but its New SCADA system would be envied at many big city utilities.

Clarksville Light & Water (CLW) had already bought new radio telemetry units (RTU) for their intakes, pump stations and water tanks, planning to have their own technicians integrate them into their SCADA* system. But several months (and a few staff changes) later, the sites still weren’t integrated. They still couldn’t poll their remote sites, because all that new SCADA hardware was still collecting dust, not data.
