Maverick Transportation, a national flatbed transportation firm that relies heavily on hi-tech communications for its logistics operations, wanted a Technology Center for its corporate headquarters in North Little Rock, Arkansas, that could double as an emergency command center. It needed to be capable of withstanding tornadoes and other catastrophic events without loss of critical power, damage to sensitive equipment or loss of vital data.

standby power systemsBrown Engineers worked closely with the design team to build the data bunker for the center with 16-inch concrete walls, a double redundant power system and zero roof openings (to prevent damaging leaks). All mission critical equipment is housed inside this sturdy bunker, including the generators, chiller and mechanical cooling systems.

For added security and convenience, Brown Engineers designed a Building Monitoring System to help ensure that all critical systems remain properly maintained and operable.

  • Interior Chiller Placement: Located within the bunker, the chiller draws air through offset louvered concrete walls to protect it from flying debris
  • Double-Redundant Power: Two incoming power feeds, two emergency generators and two Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
  • Innovative Fire Suppression: HFC-125 puts out fires but will not harm people or delicate electronics
  • Hassle-Free Startups: Electrical switchgear and controls sync with the local utility for smooth, soft transfers of power
  • Building Monitoring System: Designed and implemented by Brown Engineers, this system provides 24/7 secured remote access by authorized personnel to data on mission critical infrastructure status and functions.
