Brown Engineers is examining ways to use real-world water utility operations to increase student awareness of engineering.

We’re applying our water and automation experience to STEM-based education, exploring how control system learning modules could enhance the learning experience with realistic simulations of a treatment plant environment.

To date, our research under a National Science Foundation SBIR Phase 1 grant confirms that teachers want engineering supplements that fully engage students with hands-on exploration of STEM-related jobs and careers.

Our findings indicate that by far the most engaging approach is to immerse students in real-world examples of tech careers like treatment plant operators: a rewarding career that helps make safe, clean drinking water for everyone.
