Brown Engineers helps Entergy Arkansas Bestow Dramatic “Gift of Light“
This December, Entergy Arkansas will celebrate its 100th year in business by fitting three iconic bridges in the state’s capitol city with super-efficient, amazingly versatile LED light displays. Brown Engineers is performing the necessary electrical engineering to accommodate the project’s intricate installation requirements.
The bridges, spanning the Arkansas River between the Little Rock River Market District and North Little Rock’s Argenta Arts District, include:
- Main Street Bridge
- Junction Bridge Pedestrian Walkway
- Clinton Presidential Park Bridge (formerly the Rock Island Bridge)
These new LED systems can generate multiple colors and effects simultaneously, all beautifully reflected in the waters of the Arkansas River below. The lights can also be timed and synchronized, together or independently, with firework displays, New Year’s Eve countdowns, Riverfest, outdoor concerts and other performances.
Brown’s design tasks included power systems and fiber optic communication to the lights, to enable the coordinated color changes and other special effects.
In the above photo from a site test, the selected bridge tower shines a bold blue.
Entergy is contributing $2 million to the project. Philips Lighting is donating $100,000 in LED lights, and the following project partners are also giving a total of $400,000 in supplies, services and related support:
